6 reasons why homes with wheels are better than homes without
The other day we were talking to a friend about our motorhome, and they said “we don’t know how you do it, the whole lifestyle seems so inconvenient!” We were shocked. Our friend was so wrong that we couldn’t stop thinking about what they had said all day.
What is inconvenient about being able to go wherever you want, whenever you want? What’s inconvenient about not having to pay for hotels and being able to bring your own belongings away with you when you travel?
We couldn’t get our head around what they meant…
In the end, we decided we needed to put together this article. In it, you will find a list of 6 reasons why a home on wheels is much more convenient than a home without any.
1 – As long as there is a road you can travel there
If you are anything like us then you like your holidays to be as stress-free as possible. We hate spending hours online and on the phone trying to book planes, hire cars, and transport to the airport.
What we love about our Winnebago Solis camper van is that we can just pick a spot on the map and drive to it. There are so many beautiful places that we can visit in the USA, and we can also visit some beautiful places in Canada, as well as, in Central and South America.
2 – You don’t have to waste money on hotels
If you are traveling and holidaying in a motor home then you don’t have to worry about booking rooms in hotels. You will already have a comfy bed waiting for you in your home on wheels.
We hate the process of booking hotels – you have to look at reviews, check the rooms are okay, the location is practical, and that the food is good. If you travel in a camper then you only have to think about booking a spot at the campsite.
Another bonus of staying in campsites is that they don’t hike the prices up during the peak season – you will be able to rent a spot any time of the year for less than $10 a night.
3 – You can bring your own belongings with you
One of the worst things about going on holiday is having to narrow down what you can bring. We’re big readers, so we want to bring a lot of books with us. We also want to bring a good range of clothing. We also like to bring board games, cameras, and a whole manner of other things with us.
This is something we couldn’t do without our motorhome, we’d have to settle for one suitcase at max.
4 – You don’t have to rent a car while traveling
There is nothing worse than driving around an area that is new to you in a car that you don’t know. Add to that the knowledge that damaging this car will cost you a lot of money and you have a cocktail of worry that no one wants while on holiday.
When you travel with your motorhome, you get to bring a vehicle you know and love with you.
5 – Your holiday will be better for the planet
One 4 hour flight does the same amount of damage to the environment as 3 years of driving. So, if you’re looking to reduce your carbon footprint then you should consider going somewhere in a motorhome.
Swapping a flight for a cross-country road trip will not only help you to save the planet but it will also be a lot more fun for you. It will give you a chance to get to know a part of the country you have never seen before. We like to make family travel journals on our road trips and make sure that we stop off at some interesting waypoints on the way.
6 – You can take the dog(s)
Finally, let’s talk about the joys of traveling with your beloved family pet. We have never been tempted to travel with a cat or a hamster. But traveling with the family dog has been one of the most special experiences we have had.
You get to add a little excitement to your pet’s life, save money on kennel space, and you have an excuse to get out of bed and enjoy the wonders of the American countryside. We can’t recommend it enough.
