1. Create an HVAC System Maintenance Schedule
Not sure when to perform HVAC maintenance? The answer is before spring and fall. That’s why the first tip on how to maintain an HVAC system is to create a schedule so you don’t forget to do it.
You can set yourself a reminder right before the start of spring and fall. By having this reminder, you’ll ensure that your HVAC runs smoothly during the hot and cold months of the year since nothing is worse than your AC breaking down during a very hot or cold day!
2. Change Your Air Filters
An important aspect of HVAC maintenance is changing the filters. These air filters catch large dust particles, which keep your indoor air clean. As you can imagine, over time, these filters become clogged with excess dust.
In general, air filters last 2 to 3 months without needing to be changed, so try to change them during that period. Of course, special air filters can last longer, so be sure to check with your local Aircon Supplier to see if they have any.
3. Check Your Condensing Unit
The condensing unit helps disperse heat during summer. However, due to the condensing unit location, it’s usually exposed to dirt and grime. That’s why cleaning the condensing unit should be on your HVAC system maintenance list.
You can clean the condensing unit with a hose, but be careful not to use too much pressure, as it can break. If it does break, you’ll need to contact your local HVAC services to get it repaired.
4. Inspect the Evaporator Coin Drainpipe
As time passes, the drainpipe begins to build up with algae and mold, and as you can expect, that’s not good for the HVAC. Fortunately, you can clean the drainpipe with a wet-dry vacuum, which you can find in most hardware stores. You can also use a mix of vinegar and water to clean up any remaining mold.
