There are many forms that driver negligence can take, and the consequences can be severe. While not every neglectful driving will cause an accident or injury, there are many instances where drivers either make errors or cause a collision to save time. These common forms of driving negligence include speeding on a highway, reversing into a parking spot at the wrong angle, and failing to yield to pedestrians. Here are eight common forms of driver negligence that cause car accidents.

    1. Over Speeding on a Highway

Speeding increases the likelihood of getting into an accident because there are no time limits for leaving a safe distance from other cars. If a driver is speeding, it is necessary to be aware of all the factors involved in driving, such as road conditions and weather conditions.

    2. Violating Traffic Rules

Drivers need to abide by all of the traffic rules on the road. Some drivers believe that they can pass through a red light or make a turn without signaling. However, any type of violation like this is dangerous to both the driver and other drivers on the road. For example, if it’s raining outside, a driver who turns without signaling may lose control of their car and cause an accident.

    3. Driving When Fatigued

Drivers who are fatigued account for 10.5% of all traffic accidents. Unfortunately, these drivers are not the only ones who suffer from the consequences of a fatigued mind and body. The people in their cars are also at risk.

    4. Driving When Distracted

Distracted driving is a dangerous problem that leads to thousands of car accidents annually. Drivers are often unaware of the seriousness of carrying their cell phones while driving. If a driver is operating their vehicle and using their phone simultaneously, they may drive erratically and cause a collision with another vehicle or pedestrian.

    5. Not Wearing Seat Belts

Not wearing seat belts increases the risk of injury in case of an accident and decreases the chances of surviving an accident. Every state in the U.S has a seat belt law for both the driver and passenger. If a passenger does not wear their seat belt, it is a primary offense that may lead to legal consequences.

    6. Driving While Drunk

Drivers who are intoxicated account for more than 10% of all traffic accidents. These crashes are also the leading cause of death on the roads. Drunk driving creates a vehicle that is much more prone to an accident. It’s important to keep sober and ride safe this season.

    7. Tailgating

Tailgating often causes accidents due to the lack of time a driver has to react and stop. In some cases, drivers are so fixated on another driver that they don’t see a car in front of them. This makes it possible for the driver to crash into the car in front or run through a red light.

    8. Driving Without Due Care

Driving without due care is an offense that can lead to a car accident. For example, if a driver fails to stop at a stop sign or signal, they may be at fault for causing an accident.
